December day 20

Bake a cake

Well three actually!
We weren't going to bake a Christmas cake this year. Every year I bake one, layer it with marzipan, and then ice. Every year the topping gets nibbled away by little people, mama eats far too many slices, and at least half gets wrapped up and given to a friend. So definitely no cake this year. Except.....a neighbour mentioned never having Christmas cake as first of all he has no family to share with, secondly he can't bake, and thirdly he doesn't celebrate Christmas as he is a Jehovah's witness. So I mentioned to John that I would bake one as a surprise general gift. And then certain older children thought it wouldn't be the same without a mama made Christmas fruitcake. So why three? Well when we started baking Owen decided he wanted to make one for Emma and Sophie for a gift too!
So three cakes in the making:

All baked now and waiting for us to ice up on Friday. Owen enjoyed making these and has decided he wants to be a baker when he's a grown up dad.

Today we added a knitted bell to the advent tree.

We have a poorly girl here who is all snotted up, blowing hot and cold, and waking through the night with a cough so we're hoping for some seasonal magic to hurry her poorliness away.
